Murmur

Privacy

Last updated October 29, 2026

The short version: Murmur collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no cookies. Everything happens on your device.

What Murmur stores

Microphone

Mic mode is off unless you turn it on, and your browser asks your permission first. When it's on, Murmur measures only how loud the sound is, live, on your device, to drive the wind and the bursts. The audio is never recorded, saved, played back or sent anywhere. Turning Mic off stops the microphone immediately, and Murmur also turns it off by itself whenever the app goes to the background or your screen locks.

Images and clips

Saved images and recorded clips are created on your device and go only where you send them: your downloads, or the app you pick in your phone's share sheet. Recorded clips contain Murmur's picture and its own music, never your microphone. To make sure your first clip works, Murmur makes a tiny, silent test recording of a blank 64-pixel square when you first tap (a few, if the first comes out empty). It records nothing of yours and is thrown away immediately.

Flash safety

Murmur checks its own picture a few times a second, on a coarse 32×18 grid of brightness readings, to soften anything that starts to strobe. Those readings are about the app's own output only, are used immediately, and are never stored or sent.

Hosting

Like any website, the service that hosts Murmur may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and the time of a visit, to deliver the page and keep it secure. Murmur itself adds no tracking on top of that.

Children

Murmur collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
